THE ARTIST

Good day,

My name is Roger Valade, born in Val d'Or, Growing up in Montreal, I went from one foster family to another. Park Lafontaine quickly became my backyard. I have spent lots of time alone there asking myself about the meaning of my life.

As a young adult, I earned a living working in the bars and taverns of downtown Montreal. Finally, I opened my own restaurant with my dear friend Leo in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts.

In 1986, I returned to my roots in Lanaudiere, where my grand father, Ozias Valade had always lived. It is in Ste-Emelie-de-I'Energie where I finally found peace and quiet. This beautiful mountain brought me all the elements that I needed to express my creativity. During my many readings I discovered Joseph Curtis, a native America in Indian photographer from the 19th century. He introduced me to the history of the great American Indian People, the Sioux, the Apaches, the Lakotas, who where all at one point reunited under the magnificent guidance of the great chief, Sitting Bull. I was literally fascinated and still am. The respect these people demonstrated for Mother Earth and the spirit of the Wolf, of the Bear and of the Eagle, and their great wisdom has always been a great source of inspiration in my artistic quest.

LIFE HAS SCULPTED ME AS I AM.
AND THROUGH THE GREAT PEOPLE, I AM CARVING MY LIFE!
